Über URBAN NATION MUSEUM FOR URBAN CONTEMPORARY ART

URBAN NATION cordially invites you to:
Exhibition Opening on 17 November: Community Center as Urban Art Gallery

Glowing colors and expressive portraits: at 6 pm on 17 November, the urban artists Ostap and Felix Rodewaldt present the redecorated foyer of the Huzur community center in Bülowstrasse 94. On behalf of URBAN NATION and the foundation Berliner Leben, the two tape art stars have given a face-lift to the hitherto drab entrance area of the senior citizens‘ residence, transforming it into a new place of art. You are cordially invited to the official opening and a chance to talk to the artists, the residents and the people behind URBAN NATION and the foundation Berliner Leben.

With input from the residents of the senior citizen’s residence in Bülowstrasse 94, the tape artists Slava „Ostap“ Osinski and Felix Rodewaldt have created yet another urban art attraction in the neighborhood of Bülowstrasse in Schöneberg. The nearby URBAN NATION MUSEUM FOR URBAN CONTEMPORARY ART, under the leadership of executive creative director Yasha Young, along with the foundation Berliner Leben, was the driving force behind the project to redesign the foyer. Now, URBAN NATION presents the resulting artworks to special guests in an official opening to which you are cordially invited:

Urban Art Flair in the Huzur Foyer
The tape art icons Felix Rodewaldt and Ostap spent about three weeks redesigning the foyer of the community center and senior citizen’s residence. While Felix Rodewaldt sanded down the brown walls, at the same time creating new patterns and portraits, Ostap and the artists‘ collective SELFMADEcrew installed tape art works on the dull brick walls. The major highlight of his work was his portrayal of ten residents of the building with unique tape art installations on the walls and windows.

Other artists associated with URBAN NATION had already redesigned the facade of the building and a recreation room in the senior citizens‘ residence. „We want the residents of Bülowstrasse to benefit from URBAN NATION by availing of the access it provides to urban art and identifying with the cultural events we offer,“ says Yasha Young. „I am very grateful for the fact that we are frequently able to secure the enthusiastic involvement of outstanding artists such as Ostap and Felix Rodewaldt for our projects.“

URBAN NATION Combines Art and Social Responsibility
By redesigning the senior citizens‘ residence, URBAN NATION aims to generate yet more positive momentum in the north of Schöneberg. The goal is to gradually improve the quality of life in the disadvantaged neighborhood around Bülowstrasse with artistic interventions. „Not just the residents and visitors in Huzur, but the entire neighborhood benefits from projects like these,“ explains Alexander Wolf of the foundation Berliner Leben, of which URBAN NATION is a part. Since its foundation in 2013, Berliner Leben has organized numerous actions of this nature to promote the arts and drive positive developments in Berlin neighborhoods. The URBAN NATION MUSEUM FOR URBAN CONTEMPORARY ART, opened in Mid-September, aims not just to promote young urban artists but also to support local residents.
